Sociology and Psychology students had a fantastic talk this morning from ex-student Miesha Holway. Miesha shared her career route starting with the National Probation Service 10 years ago as a probation officer, managing high-risk people on probation in prison, on licence and on community orders.
Then more recently, she shared experiences from her time with the Youth Justice Service in Camden. Over 7 years Miesha worked across 4 different YJSs all in London. In this role, she worked with 10-18yr olds who either had been sent to court and received a community order or a custodial sentence. In the last year she has been working for HMI probation, travelling around England and Wales inspecting the quality of work in probation and YJS. Students also had the benefit of using her experiences as real-life examples for the theories that explain crime they learn about in Social Sciences.
