QESH Rowing

QEHS rowers are in a busy race period at present. Saturday saw them racing on the Tyne at Newburn over 2 divisions. With a change in temperature at the end of the week racing conditions were what you expect for the Tyne; cold and windy with heavy afternoon showers. This made for some challenging race conditions.

The morning competition saw QEHS rowers racing in the Tyne Long Distance Sculls. Fastest QEHS boat was OJ17 4x- (Hugh, Benji, Felix, Seth) with 4th overall, closely followed by the OJ16 4x- (Mack, Dennis, George, Alexis) who finished 5th overall.

The OJ15 4x+ crew (James, Barnaby, Robin, Jack, cox Merry) won their category, an excellent result from these boys. The fastest Female crew from QEHS were the WJ18 4x- crew who finished a strong 31st overall. There were also 6 doubles racing, all of which raced well in the tough conditions and posted some great times.

The afternoon racing was organised by Tyne United rowing club. Racing in this division was more challenging due to a higher quality of competition from local clubs and universities.

The best result for QEHS was the Op 4- (coxless 4) (Benji, Seth, Felix, Hugh) in 25th overall. Our other crews found the depth of competition hard to excel in.

Well done to all racers for attending and competing. This will all be valuable experience and race effort miles in the bank for our key race of the term, Rutherford Head, and also leading into the summer racing season next year.
