QEHS Rowing are in a busy run of head races. This week’s race was held at Tees Rowing Club in Stockton. This is a brilliant venue for the spectator with easy access to the river and a modern boathouse to watch the racing from.
An early start from Hexham saw 12 QEHS boats racing at this event. The racing consisted of 200 crews from across the region and Scotland, racing in quads and doubles over 5000m.
As in previous races it is our Y12 and Y11 boys’ crews who are posting the quickest times in these events. Open J16 4x- (Mack, Dennis, Alex, George) boat were the fastest QEHS boat with the 6th fastest time on the day. 3 seconds behind them were the Y12 boys (Hugh, Seth, Benji, Felix), with 7th overall. The second Y11 boys boat (Josh, Jacob, James, Alexis) backed up strong recent performances with 11th place. The Y10 boys ( Morty, Barnaby, Marcus, Lloyd, cox Adam) got their racing season off to a good start with a strong performance for 26th position overall.
The QEHS girl crews put in solid performances showing good fitness gains. First home was the Y13 girls 4x- (Chloe, Ellen, Evie, Rachel) finishing 83rd overall. The Y11 girls came 132nd (Imogen, Beth, Millie, Edie) and the Y10s came 150th (Jennifer, Rosie, Isabel, Libby, cox Elodie).
QEHS had 4 crews racing in doubles with the Y11 boys double (Ben and Alec) leading them home 96th place overall in the standings.
The afternoon saw another division of racing over 5000m. Fewer QEHS crews entered, but notable results were the Y11 boys four (Josh, Mack, Alex, Dennis, cox Elodie) and Seth in his single both coming 2nd in their respective events.
A big thank you to all coaches and parental helpers who made this event happen. It was a very long day by the time the trailers were unloaded back at Tyne Green. Well done to all for the super human effort!
