A group of Year 9 students have now completed a Peer Mentor training programme and achieved AQA Peer Mentoring and AQA Safeguarding & Disclosure accreditation.
The training was designed and delivered in conjunction with the Northumbria Healthcare Trust ‘Be You’ team. Peer Mentors provide important support to other Year 9 students, helping them to overcome wellbeing issues related to friendships and exam stress. A Peer Mentor is a young person who can and wants to provide advice and guidance whilst acting as a positive role model for younger people who require their support.
The group has shown immense resilience – the training was due to be delivered over eight weeks, but owing to several lockdowns it has taken us seven months and a mixture of online and classroom based sessions. However, despite this, the group have continued to show enthusiasm throughout and are now ready for their next step, running a lunchtime drop-in group.
Well done Junior Mentors!
