Yesterday QEHS alumni Katie Banecki came into school to talk to a group of our Sixth Form students. Katie has just graduated in Biomedical Sciences from Oxford. She was one of only a few students from the North of England in her cohort and offered to support Year 13 students applying to Oxbridge, as well as students applying for Biosciences and Medicine at other universities.
Her kind offer to share her knowledge of her subject, the application process and what it is like to study at an elite university was invaluable.
Students applying for medicine felt that ‘Katie was able to offer a different perspective’ and ‘talk about student life rather than just the academic side’ and her answers to their questions were more ‘realistic’ with ‘less sugar-coating’.
Oxbridge applicants said the following:
‘The mock interview for bioscience was really helpful as it gave me the opportunity to practise and get used to that situation’.
‘It was helpful to hear more about the differences between colleges, rather than the stock answers’.
‘It was really useful to hear about the application from the perspective of the applicant rather than the university’.
