War Horse Trip

We took our year 11 and year 13 drama students to Sunderland Empire to watch the iconic National Theatre’s War Horse last week. Needless to say, they were blown away by the amazing production, which is a magical retelling of Michael Morpurgo’s novel. The life-size horse puppets are incredible, enhanced by the backdrop of creative projections, dramatic music, explosive sound and special effects.

The performance recounts an emotional story of friendship and love but also the brutality of World War 2. Set in a sepia-style Devonshire and with key moments to make us both laugh and cry (the Goose!) there was not a dry eye in the house!
What a great piece for students to reflect on in their reviews of live theatre in their written exam. We are all still buzzing!
