Yesterday we travelled to Ovingham for the first round of the English Schools Cross Country. The weather was fantastic compared to the torrential conditions of last year.
This is an individual event with the top 16 qualifying for the next round in January at Temple Park.
We had some fantastic results across both schools with 37 out of 50 students attending going into the next round.
All of our students represented the school very well, ran hard and should be proud of themselves – we are!
The Junior Boys and Girls races are a Y8/9 event. In the boys’ race across HMS and QEHS, we filled 12 of the 16 qualifying spaces which was a huge achievement.
In the boys race, we had 8 from QEHS going through – Wilfred (1st), Billy B (3rd), Adam B (4th), George H (6th), Daniel M (7th), Fred C (8th), Archie H (9th) and Arthur B (15th).
In the girls race, there were more great runs with the following qualifying – Eleanor D (2nd), Emilia S (3rd), Beth N (10th), Sofia M (11th), Winnie L (13th), Ariel L (14th)
Due to illness we only had one Inter (Y10/11) girl running. Congratulations to Olive T (2nd).
The Inter Boys race was hotly contested with four QEHS boys in the front pack. There was a battle between them with Magnus (1st), Arthur Di (2nd), Arthur D (3rd), and Leo De (4th). Also having a great run to qualify were Elliott Y (15th) and Joe M (16th).
Our Senior runners did not run on the day due to low numbers across all schools so we also have 10 more going to the next round.
A very successful day!
We look forward to seeing how they all perform in the next round. Well done to all involved.
