Iceland Day 3

Students had an early start. The first stop was Skógafoss waterfall towering 60m high. Students then grabbed their crampons and ice axes and walked up the frozen glacier tongue of the Sólheimajökull glacier.

In the afternoon, they visited the town of Vik for lunch and then walked along the Reynisfjara black beach to see the black basaltic columns similar to the Giants Causeway. The final stop was to see Seljalandsfoss waterfall. This waterfall’s plume spills 60m over a former sea cliff, now sited far inland due to isostatic rebound.  Some students braved the ice and squeezed through a narrow gap to see an additional waterfall.
