The A-Level sociology course aims to introduce students to a new way of viewing the world and a new way of interpreting events and behaviour in society. It aims to take student learning beyond the classroom and start to infiltrate their lives.
Sociology at QEHS aims to develop students’ sociological imagination. We want our students to have a greater awareness of social, political, cultural, legal and educational changes in society and the impact this may have on both groups and individuals. Through the teaching of sociology, we aim to encourage and promote respect and tolerance for others with a specific focus on tolerance and understanding of class, gender, ethnic diversity and differences in society. We want QE students to be curious and willing to question and challenge their own assumptions and do this with empathy. We want students to have an awareness of how experiences can shape an individual and thereby encourage students to be less judgmental.
