Year 11 students and staff at Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham are celebrating another excellent set of GCSE results. In a year where a further twenty GCSEs have reformed, we are delighted to report that 80% of students achieved the 9-4 grades in English and maths; this matches our best ever performance when the currency was A*-C. Furthermore, 68% of students achieved 9-5 in English and maths – this is up 5% on last year and represents the high quality work completed by the students.

There were many outstanding individual performances and we are delighted that so many students will progress on to study A Level and vocational courses in our successful Sixth Form.

Year 13 students and staff at Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham are celebrating matching the school’s best ever set of A Level results. An amazing 41% of all entries were graded A*/A (or equivalent) and 71% of students were graded A*-B. We are also equally delighted with our vocational results, which were strong again this year with students (on average) achieving a distinction grade across a range of subjects. At least a third of QE students take one or more of these vocational BTEC or OCR qualifications.

There were many outstanding individual performances and the school is delighted that two students will be going on to study at Oxford or Cambridge with a further five taking up courses in medicine or veterinary medicine. Overall, 97% of students got into their first or second choice university this year. In maths A Level, 22 students achieved A* grades and the average result in OCR sport was double distinction*.
