We are delighted to announce that QEHS will be hosting a charity cake afternoon for students in aid of Macmillan on Friday 28 September 2018 as part of their ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ campaign.

We are asking for a donation of £1 per student on the day to purchase a cake and a drink. All money raised will go directly to Macmillan.

As there will potentially be 900 students accessing the event across the afternoon, we are in need of lots of cake and are therefore asking any parents/carers if they would like to donate some cakes/buns/crispie cakes etc. These can be homemade or shop bought. Anything would be gratefully appreciated.

The start of every new academic year produces many challenges for the rowers of Queen Elizabeth High School. The first is the 50km (31mile) Boston Rowing Marathon starting in Lincoln and finishing in Boston. QEHSRC entered 42 rowers in 15 crews, many deciding to tackle the course in the small boat categories of single and double sculls.

Last Friday, a cohort of almost eighty former pupils of Queen Elizabeth Grammar School began to arrive in Hexham to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the commencement of their secondary education in the town.

A smaller group, who have met for regular annual get togethers, set about organising a major reunion, which was held at Hexham Abbey function rooms on Saturday 15 September. Planning began over a year ago and involved booking the venue and setting up a Facebook page to track down and recruit members who were cross referenced against lists from yearbooks. The Hexham Courant also ran an article several months ago, which attracted more attendees.
