Thirteen Sixth Form students took part in a rat dissection workshop at the Centre for Life on Friday. The students looked at the different organ systems of the rat, and were complemented by the demonstrator for their engagement and interest. Many of the students who took part will be applying for courses linked to medicine, veterinary science, and biology, so this experience will enhance their UCAS application greatly.

Does anyone have the mobile number of The Chancellor of the Exchequer? Our Sixth Form students have been rewriting the economic policies of Philip Hammond.

The Year 12 A Level Economics students are concluding their first year of study by teaming up to identify the challenges currently facing the UK economy and recommend policies that will allow the UK to more effectively meet its economic objectives. They were asked to design and deliver a persuasive presentation using economic theory and available data...and then defend their policies to the scrutiny of the audience, which was made up of fellow students and members of staff including Executive Headteacher Mr Atkins.

Judged against strict criteria, the overall winners were Euan Farrington, Duncan MacGregor and Jack Stedman.

The QEHS Under 15 Indoor Cricket Team travelled to Lord's Cricket ground to represent North of England schools in the national competition. The girls had previously won the regional competition in Bolton, beating the champions of strong counties such as Yorkshire and Lancashire. The standard of girls' cricket at the national competition was outstanding. Playing against all private schools, the QEHS team competed tremendously well and were an absolute credit to the school. They finished as the top state school in England and Wales and among the top 5 schools - state and independent - overall. Mr Armstrong, who led the team, commented: "This is an outstanding achievement by the girls and we are so proud of them, both in terms of how they played and the way they have conducted themselves throughout."
