Year 11 and Year 13 German students have enjoyed their first full day in Germany. After a tour of Bielefeld taking in views of the city from the Sparrenburg castle, Year 11 sampled Currywurst and ice cream before their return to school to meet partners for lunch. A late afternoon trip then ensued to the Dr Oetker factory, where they were joined by the 8 Year 13 students who had spent their first day on work placements with the mayor of Steinhagen, Klaus Besser, at a local newspaper, a travel agency and with two manufacturing companies.

Tuesday sees the group on a full day trip to Berlin and despite the very early start, students are looking forward to their boat trip on the river Spree before taking in all of the major Berlin landmarks, including the Bundestag, the Brandenburg Gate and other historical buildings. Year 13 will spend time gathering information as part of their A Level study of Berlin.

Wednesday is another important day for all, with some lessons in school and a visit to the town hall, where mayor Klaus Besser is also hosting one of the Bundestag MPs. We are expecting a few comments about the impending World Cup quarter final!

Thursday sees a day trip to Osnabruck and a walking tour of the city, before some preparation for the return journey home that evening - an extremely busy 5 days, but an unbelievably warm welcome, as ever, from our hosts at the Steinhagener Gymnasium.
