On 15 March 2018, eight students from Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham, led by maths teachers Mrs Ju and Mrs James took part in the regional Year 10 Maths Feast organised by the Further Maths Support Programme at Northumbria University. Despite strong competition from 14 talented teams of students coming from Gateshead, Newcastle and Northumberland, the Queen Elizabeth mathematicians triumphed!

The eight exceptional students from QEHS were split into two teams and competed over four rounds, including team working, problem solving, logical thinking and creativity. Their prodigious talents were tested against some of the finest mathematical minds of the North East, but the QEHS students stole the show with the two entered teams taking first and second place.

All eight students shone as individuals and thoroughly enjoyed the day. The team taking first place were delighted to be presented with an amusing commemorative mug which had written on it ‘Last night I had a dream that I was weightless. I was like ... 0mg!’

We look forward to taking the trophy again next year...
